1. Sometimes I give in and let the little guy do things he shouldn't, like take every single item out of the baby drawer, because I have laundry to fold and this keeps him entertained.

(Also, he is really, really skinny. He's wearing a 6 month top WITH a shirt underneath!)
2. I have a current love, no, OBSESSION, over the blurry background thing on my camera (I am so clearly not a photographer).

(C'mon, I just made cornmeal look cool. How awesome is that?!)
3. I once won "Most Organized" during superlatives on my message board. Ha!

I also won "Most Popular." Equally deserving of a Ha!
4. If you give a baby some cooking utensils, he will entertain himself for an hour while you cook. It's marvelous.

5. I have the cutest dogs in the universe.

(If someone told me I had to stop using the blurry background thing, that would be like telling me I had to wash dishes by hand for the rest of my life. I'm really obsessed with my dishwasher like that.)
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some Stranded On An Island Drama to get back to.
*Hubs says this makes me a follower, but I think resisting for five seasons at least earns me a SEMI-follower, am I right?
What a cool camera!! I told Niko I wanted one like that and he said they were like $1,000. Is he lying? He is, isn't he?
ReplyDeletePS - my security word was "aerse", haha
ReplyDeleteI have never seen "Lost" & am going to keep it that way, lol :-) I am too lenient with Layla too when it comes to things that keep her busy while I need to get something done as well. I really need to do better though b/c I know how hard it is to reverse that behavior once it gets established :-(
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched one episode of Lost, but we can now see it through N's xbox 360 and netflix, so I've been thinking about seeing what all the fuss is about!
ReplyDeleteThat's what the baby drawer is for! I let Holden do things that he thinks are "bad" all the time. Sometimes, I plant stuff for him to find that he thinks are new and cool. I think it makes him feel independent and supports his sense of curiosity.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree with velvetminxx...i like the blurry background thingie. You keep doing it!
I totally let my Layla do that too. I have replaced things in the bathroom cupboards and lower shelves around the house with her old toys that she doesn't care about anymore. It keeps her interested in something. I also have been trying to let her explore without me hovering over her, so I had no choice but to baby proof some stuff
ReplyDeleteLOL @ "blurry background thing." I love my digital SLR, too. Which one do you have? It seems by the quality of your pics that yours may be a little better than mine. We bought the Nikon D40 almost a year ago (which is pretty much the beginners camera for digital SLRs), and it is HANDS DOWN the best electronics purchase we've ever made. (Well, except the HD camcorder that takes AMAZING video, but we barely use it.) Anyway, glad to know you're enjoying your camera. I've run across lots of mommy blogs of people just like us that just bought a "good" camera, and got so good at it, they do it as a side gig now. No formal training whatsoever. And their pics are AMAZING. Crystal Welsh's new blog is my new favorite: http://crystalwelshphotography.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend!
Jenna - ours wasn't quite that expensive, but I think about $850 or $900 when we bought it (prob cheaper now). It was the one that we got for "free" with our best buy credit card rewards and some birthday money of mine. It's a Nikon D5000 and we LOVE it! To be honest, I haven't even flipped open the manual yet, so I have a lot to learn. It's pretty user-friendly though. I mean hey, I figured out the blurry background thing all on my own! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips guys - I have now stocked the bottom baby drawer with all baby-friendly things and will be keeping it for him! Who knew?!
Gerri - Nikon's are awesome! I just checked out Crystal's site and her pictures are beautiful! The truth is, I don't think I could ever take pictures like that. A lot of that is just the editing, which I am not skilled at in any way, shape or form. I just post pictures as-is. I also don't have photoshop. Can't really edit well without it! Do you have PS?
Jenna - LOL @ aerse!!!
ReplyDeleteNope, no PhotoShop for me. Remember that little "photoshoot" I called myself doing (Link: http://thekimblekrew.blogspot.com/2009/12/photo-shoot.html)? Well, all of that editing was done using a FREE photo editing software -- Picnik.com. You should check it out. I don't have time to edit the tons of pictures I take, but I try to do it every once in a while. I probably will never buy PhotoShop unless I start pursuing photography FOR REAL. And as a working mama that cherishes every minute I get with my munchkin, I don't see that that happening any time soon.
ReplyDeleteChels - I have photoshop elements and it has pretty much every feature you'd need for basic photo editing and it is WAY cheaper than PS. Something to consider! :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Angelique with the PS Elements software. TONS cheaper and can pretty much do everything that a photographer who is just doing it for fun would need to do. I've had a lot of success with it...and I have a friend who converts a lot of the PS apps to Elements for me. :0)
ReplyDeleteGosh! I love it when my pictures happen to get the blurry background too!
ReplyDeletegreat pics!
The blurry background dealio is called "bokeh" and I am equally (maybe?) in love with it! Do you have some small paper lanterns or something similar? Colorful light bokeh looks bee-utiful at almost dark taken in your yard/patio/porch/jacked from neighbors because you couldn't find any...
