I was going to write this awesome blog post about how I discovered that store-bought bread is evil and in no way nourishing and that sprouting grains to grind into flour to soak overnight with an acid to knead yourself and then turn into bread is really the way to go. I was going to. But then my friend Jenna wrote a blog post that almost made me pee my pants outlining just how ridiculous all this is getting. I would have to agree that 22 hour bread is pushing my limits.
It's a whole series, in fact, and it's very much worth reading. Start here, then go here and here. You're welcome. She's hilarious.
I'm still making my own toothpaste, though. Just sayin'.
Noooo! I killed Chelsea's bread! Bread killa!
ReplyDeleteOh, PS, I totally forgot about the damn sprouting. I see what you were talking about now, sprout (then dry) THEN grind THEN soak THEN proceed to mix/rise/punch/rise/punch/THIRD RISE/bake.
ReplyDeleteI thought you were just supposed to eat the sprouts. Like Duuuuuh. As if something "nourishing" would be easy.
Thanks for making me feel like a freak, girls.
ReplyDeleteFor the record...I don't soak my grains. I've never been able to make it work. However, you just leave me and my grain grinder alone!
(All in good fun...I wouldn't even grind grains if I hadn't gotten that darn thing for such an amazing price.)
Hahaha! Oh, Melissa, you know I would TOTALLY be grinding grains if I had my own grain mill. And I soak, so I guess we're even. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad someone finally used the word "ridiculous" lol!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally just teasing, but I do have to say as a non-crunchy or maybe "crunchy around the edges" (lol) mommy all this stuff sounds *slightly* nuts :D
But since I know you girls and that you are in fact, not nuts - I have to assume you actually enjoy this?
Good luck with your grains girls! The phrase "best thing since sliced bread" is really starting to take on a whole new meaning to me LOL!
♥ you girlies!
Melissa, you grind your ole grains?! So if one *were* to succumb to this sweet torture, would it even be necessary to soak them considering they would be "aging" as they soaked, or would the oxidation not occur since they'd be under water.
ReplyDelete(And why am I willing to do cartwheels for bread and yet my laundry room looks like a typhoon flew through?)
PSPS- not sure why it keeps changing my name, this is still Jenna
Jenna - from what I understand (from reading the very blogs you linked over the past two years), soaking is still beneficial even if you grind the grains yourself (I still don't do it though - maybe I need to give it another shot). However, I *think* that if you sprout the grains first, then soaking is NOT necessary (I do want to try sprouting).
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I have a grain grinder. A friend of mine sold her super nice grinder to me for uber cheap after she found out that she and her daughter have celiac disease.
toothpaste doesn't cost much and I am sure you could find a coupon to make it even cheaper?
ReplyDeleteHaha...I know, I can actually usually get it free through CVS or Walgreens. It's more the ingredients in common toothpaste that I'm trying to get away from, and rather than buy expensive organic toothpaste at $6 a pop, I can make my own much, much cheaper. :)
