So long, coupons.
Sheesh, I can't keep up with this blog anymore. I can't believe there was ever a time when I blogged multiple times a day!
I have a few posts in the works, but they're taking forever between all our time outdoors, family visiting and spring cleaning. Also, who forgot to tell me how much work a toddler is?! WOW!
I've really gotten away from my coupon posts lately (okay, okay, MUCH MORE than gotten away - they don't exist). Mostly because we've completely switched gears in this house. After stewing on this for a long, long time and finally convincing hubs to watch Food, Inc. with me, we are transitioning to a completely different lifestyle. One that's sure to be filled with trips to the farm, weekly farmer's market dates and lots of time at Whole Foods. I found that living a "coupon" way of life lends itself to living less healthily and spending way too much time focused on cheap foods, not whole foods. But in staying true to my frugal roots, I have found a way to make this (very) expensive lifestyle work for us, and most of it involves getting back to an old-fashioned way of living. I'm so excited to share it all, but it's a work in progress. Stay tuned!
Ah, and now, my nap-revolting toddler beckons.
That's awesome, Chelsea! I have a friend who is an expert on Kansas City's organic and farm-to-market scene. I will e-mail you her blog address.
ReplyDeleteReally?! Oh, awesome! I've been doing so much research on KC farms and CSAs that I can barely see straight anymore. I'd love to get the inside scoop! Thanks, Anne!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing more about it :)
ReplyDeleteI got really into coupons for a month or so, but I came to the same realization you did.
Melissa, you have pretty much been my guiding light in finding frugal ways to live more "green." :) I'm sure nothing I have to say will be news to you!
ReplyDeleteI adore the coupons for toiletries/cleaning supplies and some dry goods, but we are kinda picky on a lot of things, so I find myself not using a lot of them that we get in our local paper. We are working slowly towards having our garden producing food. Right now I am just thrilled I haven't killed the ivy and other vines I have planted. But I did bulldoze the back yard in order to create some gardening beds. Whew- I think I rambled a bit. Awesome for you with the whole foods. Definitely better for you, and you can still do a lot of your once a month cooking cause almost everything freezes!
ReplyDeleteI'll be hanging out at the farmer's market on the corner of Sante Fe & Kansas City Ave. every Sat. morning :) Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteHey now, no need to ditch the coupons entirely! I have an entire coupon folder dedicated just to things they sell at Whole Foods, and it's stuffed! I have slowly transitioned to doing 75% of our grocery shopping at Whole Foods (plus our CSA) and have still managed to keep the food budget the same. Coupons are still your friend :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know, I know. :) I still have my big coupon container that I will, of course, never part with. Now it's just mostly filled with Whole Foods coupons or things for around the house. I kind of like it because it means cutting about 75% of my "cutting" every week.
ReplyDeleteWe've switched to a more whole foods approach to eating after watching Food Inc. a while back. And while I can't use as many coupons as I used to, I still am able to use tons for diapers, freezer bags, etc. I think we've found a good balance. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh, and mambosprouts.com is supposed to be good for coupons for organic products :)
ReplyDeleteI agree! Coupons worked for me that one time I really dug in when you inspired me to do so, but most of the things I eat aren't "couponable".
