My perfect diapers.

If you've been following my quest to determine how to spend this month's allowance, you'll be happy to know I made a decision.

You might not be happy to know what my decision is.*

That's right, I'm choosing diapers. And here's the thing - while diapers are a necessity, they are no longer a necessity in our house. We have plenty of them, I'm just not happy with most of them. Tim loves the gDiapers and while I've always raved about them, I'm liking them less and less these days. I think it's because I have mostly the old-style g's, and he's pretty much grown out of the large's already (And he's a shrimp! I don't get it!). I feel like I can never get a good fit and even though we don't have leaks, I hate seeing little indentations from the snaps on his skin. :(

So I'm leaving the g's for Tim and I'm stocking up on my favorites. After buying a bunch of new brands a few months ago, I've finally figured out what I like most. My opinion on the matter seems to change weekly, but I think my two month test run has given us some good information.

First up, AppleCheeks!

I was iffy about these at first because they seem a little girly with the "ruffle" appearance at the legs and top of the diaper. But these diapers are awesome! We have never had a leak, the envelope system means you don't have to dig the insert out since it will come out in the wash, and the elastic is in perfect shape! I'm getting more of these along with some Superdo inserts so that we can finally do away with our nighttime disposable diapers. I've heard that pairing a Superdo with a microfiber insert will hold even the heaviest wetter. I'm so excited to try!

Next up, the BumGenius Organic AIO.

I was even iffier about these diapers because I've had some bad luck with BG's in the past. I despise aplix/velcro and our BG's were ruined in no time flat. The elastic wore out quickly and we were soon getting leaks every time we wore the old BG pockets. I couldn't resist giving these AIO with snaps a try, even though they're on the pricey side. And I am SO glad I did! This is, by leaps and bounds, my all-time favorite diaper. It takes longer to dry than others, but I wash them at night, hang them to dry and toss them in the dryer for ten minutes in the morning and they're ready to go. Plus, there's no stuffing! I just throw them right on the babe and go! AND the elastic is still as perfect as it was when we bought them! In fact, the diaper still looks brand new and I've been using the heck out of it for two months. The only fear I have is that Ben will outgrow them before he's pottytrained, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be pottytrained early enough that it's not an issue. :)

*Disclaimer: I bought myself a pair of Rock & Republic jeans two months ago, so that kind of sealed the deal for me. I don't really need another pair. Especially since I plan on losing ten pounds and dropping one more size. No need to buy jeans until that happens, right?

  1. I have been moving away from the gs too, for the exact same reasons. The little red spots are really getting to me, and while they still fit ok, I'm just not that thrilled with them anymore.
I actually just bought some super cheap snap pocket ones from China on ebay that I love so far. We'll see how long the elastic lasts though. They usually say you get what you pay for. My little guy is in disposables at night too, so maybe I'll try that Apple cheeks one on my super heavy wetter too. Thanks for the reviews!

  2. I've heard about those diapers! Definitely keep me posted on how they work for you. :)

  3. Hmm...I was actually going to sell my AppleCheeks because of that darn ruffle (and get more FBOS), but maybe I will get a couple of Superdo's and see if that could be a good nighttime solution.

  4. Do you like the FBOS? I really like mine, but I'm having a tough time getting the fit right these days. I probably need to play around with the leg elastic (my favorite part!!!). The ruffle bothers me, but the fit is too perfect not to buy more! Plus, if I have a girl next time around, it'll be perfect! :)

  5. I'm still in love with my gs. But they are the only ones I have tried too.

  6. I say the dipes are an investment!

(Niko and I have an under-$50-it's-okay rule, which only applies to him of course. )

  7. Abby has also pretty much outgrown the OS larges. Ridiculous! The NS larges are still going strong though, and thankfully most of mine are NS.

  8. Nicole - Remember when I was ALL about the old style?! It was like, one day they were awesome, and a week later he'd grown out of mediums. Then like a month after that, he'd grown out of the larges! I don't get it.

  9. Fair enough! Buy yourself the new jeans when you drop a size. I expect to see them at a playdate sometime, so I'll hold you to that. ;)

  10. I don't like my g's anymore either, and it is the same reason, I hate the snap marks in her skin. We can't find a way out of our night time disposables, she doesn't leak so much as wakes up with a crazy rash. In fact, these days, if I leave her in a cloth for more then 2 hours (like for a nap) she gets a rash, so we only use cloth while at home and while awake, which makes me sad. I am also hoping we potty train before having to buy more, I am almost not willing to bend on that, she is still in the smallest snaps in her mediums knickernappies (which are our favorites) so I think we should make it.

  11. I can't believe you guys are growing out of your OS g's! My boys are little chunkers (pushing 28lbs!) compared to your babes and they are still my favorite. Wyatt is still in a NS Medium most days. I pretty much hate the NS 6-pack, curling aplix after the first week of washes, all the g's have flaked off....I'd love more OS! I need to figure out what we're doing with the new baby- I'm not buying any more g's. Unless they fixed the aplix. Did they do that? I still think they are the cutest.
